Just because you’re nominated for Best Picture does not mean I’ll watch you. I still firmly believe that There Will Be Blood should win Best Picture. That’s the criteria I’m holding all of the nominees for Best Picture to. Is it a better film than There Will Be Blood? Is Slumdog Millionaire better than There Will Be Blood? Nope. Benjamin Button? Milk? No way, no how. So, de facto, PT Anderson picks up the Oscar for that one a year late, but still very deserved.
I’ll probably check out The Wrestler though. And while I wasn’t a big fan of the film, Synecdoche, New York should have been nominated for best original screenplay. That screenplay is a work of art.
